Some common questions and worries...

Hopefully this page can answer some questions that you or your young people might have. If you have more questions or suggestions, please ask us at naturedays@aigas.co.uk.

Who will be working with us?

We can let you know ahead of your session which staff should be with you. All of the Naturedays sessions will be led by the education team. They are often also supported by staff from Aigas Field Centre. You can see them here:

Can we know the schedule?

We build every schedule to the needs and interests of the group. Once we've made it, we can send you a copy. Just let us know if you'd like one!

Here is an example of a day we might run (click to download a PDF):

Specific timings

If you have a specific routine that works for you, please let us know.

This could include breaks, lunchtime, reading or anything else. We will do our best to fit around that.

Where will I be?

We usually base our sessions in or near our Education Centre, the Magnus House:

You can also see what your arrival might look like:

Do I have to join in?

Everyone is free to join as much or as little as they like!

Most people enjoy the activities that we prepare, but we know that sometimes it's better to watch first or do something else.

There are always other options, like using our microscopes, bug hunting, colouring, reading, or just having some free time in the woods.

Do you have a separate space that we can use?

We usually do! Please let us know if you would like this before you come, as we can make sure that we have a space, such as The Crannog, set up for you. There is a picture of what that could look like on this page:

Can I use my phone and camera?

Yes, of course! Although it can be lovely to switch everything off for a while, anything that makes you feel more comfortable while you're outside is a good thing!

Photos are welcome too, though we ask that you don't take photos of other participants without permission from them and their parent/guardian.

LGBTIAQ+ inclusion

We are a queer-led organisation, and want members of the LGBTQIA+ community to feel safe and welcome with us.

Members of the education team all choose to wear pronoun pins and include pronouns in our email signatures. We encourage participants to share their pronouns and preferred names with us if they want to.

For more information about bathrooms, have a look here.

What if we're late or early?

If you're late, that's no problem! We can send you a message to let you know where we'll be, or one of our staff can come and meet you when you arrive. There is no rush to join the group once you arrive either. Just settle in, get comfy, then decide whether you want to join the activities.

Equally, If you prefer to arrive ahead of the group to settle in, just let us know and we will make sure you have a space - just be aware we might be setting things up for the rest of the group while you're there!

What if we can't leave when the schedule says?

We understand that some people find it difficult to leave or switch activities at a set time. We try to keep all of our timings flexible.

We always give a time check a few minutes before the end of the activities, and usually don't chase people away at the end of the day. We can schedule in some extra time if you like to wind down.

Triggers, Phobias, and Sensitive Topics

Please let us know if you would like to avoid certain topics or treat subjects with care, and we will do our best to be respectful.

Noise

We know that noises of all varieties can be annoying, distracting or painful.

Noise levels often depend on the group that you will be joining us with, though we can do our best to manage it, for example by setting up a quiet area in a separate building next door to the Magnus House.

Special Interests

Special interests are welcomed and celebrated here!

If you have something interesting to tell us, or something you would like to bring and show us, we would love that. It doesn't even need to be nature related.

Sometimes we will need to divide our attention between the group and what you are telling us, but we will try to be as clear as we can when this happens, and make some space to talk at another time.

If you have more questions, please ask us at naturedays@aigas.co.uk
