Allergen Risks

Please let us know if you or someone in your group has any allergies or intolerances, and we can do our best to make your visit as safe as possible.

Though we are very careful, the nature of our work means that some allergens are always present around the estate.

Lots of our birdfeeders and hides contain peanuts

There are animals like dogs and horses on the estate

If we know someone in your group has an allergy or intolerance, here are some things we can do to avoid them having a reaction. If you have any other suggestions or requirements, please let us know before your visit.

Nuts and Peanuts

  • The education team will not eat or handle any nuts or peanuts on the day, including for breakfast.

  • We can ask other participants to avoid eating nuts and peanuts on the day, and not include them in their lunch or snacks.

  • Any guests staying on site will be warned and asked to stay out of the Magnus House on the day.

  • Any contractors and day visitors not in your group will be warned and asked to stay out of the Magnus House.

  • We will clean all surfaces in the Magnus House prior to your visit.

  • We will delay filling any bird feeders until after the group has left.

  • We can remove peanut birdfeeders before your visit.

  • All staff are qualified first aiders and are trained with autoinjectors.

Insect stings

  • Survey the areas we will use for any wasp nests or beehives.

  • If any are present, we will mark a safe boundary line around any nests or avoid the area entirely.

Other food and cosmetics allergies

  • All staff will avoid using products that contain the allergens in question, including shampoo and soaps, before the session.

  • We will ask participants to do the same.

  • We will avoid any of the allergens in our food for the day, including for breakfast.

  • Any contractors and day visitors not in your group will be warned and asked to stay out of the Magnus House.

Wheat and gluten

  • We occasionally cook bread together over a fire, but can make alternatives, like popcorn!

  • We can request that other participants avoid cross contamination with cutlery, plates etc.

Dairy

  • We stock milk alternatives such as oat or soy milk for tea

  • We usually have dairy free hot chocolate available.

  • If we are lucky enough to be cooking over a fire, the recipe will be dairy free.

Animal hair

  • There are several dogs that live on site, and while we do our best to keep them away from areas of the estate that we regularly use, they do occasionally sneak past while we're not looking! None of the dogs that live on the estate are allowed in the Green Room in the Magnus House, and we always thoroughly clean before your visit.

  • Taxidermy generally does not trigger hair allergies, however if you like we can remove the taxidermy from any spaces you will use, to be extra careful.
