Woods

Aigas is set in a mixture of woodland types; Birch, Scots Pine and plantation of exotic species. Deer, foxes, pine martens, badgers and red squirrels are all part of our community, though how often they can be spotted depends on a combination of how quiet you can be, where you are and just a little bit of luck!

Rangers and children can often be found hunting through leaf-litter, shaking trees and sweeping nets around to discover the smaller variety of animals living in these woods, including a happy host of spiders, woodlice, beetles and slugs. We also have some more unusual (and very eye-catching) trees planted by the Victorians like the ‘hugging’ tree (Giant Sequoia) and Red Cedars with wonderful low looping branches.
