Secondary Programmes

We are very keen to welcome our older visitors and we are constantly looking at ways to accommodate pupils of secondary age. Our courses are led by our ranger team which are tailored made to ensure that your programme suits the exam board or curriculum area for your subject area. We would be happy to help you and your students collect the necessary data and the rest is up to you. Feel free to speak to Anna or Faith and we can tailor something to your requirements.

We love Geography field trips

We have had many budding geographers spending time with us collecting data for their projects. Aigas offers an ideal location to look at different ecosystems and related soil types. There are super glacial features locally that will start discussion. Come and get you feet wet in the local burn and find out more about fluvial processes. We are very happy to take our ventures further afield should you feel the need!

Brilliant Biology

Our many ecosystems show a diverse range of habitats suitable for any budding biologist wanting to discover more about the natural world. Looking at a range of sampling techniques from sweep netting on the moors through to kick sampling in the burn, we can demonstrate the techniques required to gain a full understanding of the natural world.

Photography and Art

Aigas has inspired many visitors to take amazing pictures and put paintbrush to paper throughout the years. We would be only too happy to show you some of our secluded locations and views that could help you to capture that amazing shot, we also have a few photographers on the team who would be only too happy to share their ideas.

Rural skills

Over the last year we have welcomed students taking part in rural skills. They have done anything from mending fences, creating footpaths to vegetation bashing, skills that are necessary for anyone aspiring to work in the environmental sector. You and your students would be most welcome to come and get your hands dirty and take a hands on approach at managing a project at Aigas, why don’t you speak to Anna or Faith.

Geology rocks

Anna, our resident geologist would be very keen to work with anyone interested about finding more about the geology beneath our feet. She would be only too happy to accompany you on a fossil hunt or even looking for garnets in the local metamorphic rocks. Speak to her and she can plan a fieldwork event.

Magnus house facility

Why don’t you come and spend the day in the Magnus House, we are willing to welcome schools to use the state of the art facilities. Aigas is an excellent place just to get away from the pressures of school life. Why don’t you bring your students and spend the day focusing on coursework or even spending time revising at a tranquil location.

Have we missed anything?

From Bronze Age hut circles to a Victorian mansion on a former sporting estate, we could cater for those studying History and archaeology and, if your subject area hasn’t been mentioned, come and ask we would love to hear from you.

NB. Aigas does not supply qualified teachers. Our qualified rangers will lead and facilitate all school groups in the field and will assist with teaching wherever possible.
