LOOK AFTER YOUR OWN BACKYARD
During this hands-on day we will get into teams and make wormeries, bird boxes, bird feeders, watering cans, insect homes and a mini vegetable patch for your playground or classroom all out of recycled goods. See a working compost garden in action and learn how to take cuttings from helpful plants, find out what the juice from a wormery smells like. Play games to learn the importance of protecting and conserving our environment. Find out what can damage our environment and how we can prevent and recycle waste.

WILD WOODS AND PLENTIFUL PLANTS
Woodlands are the “lungs of the earth” and plants are the "producers" of life. Come and be a botanist for the day, explore our birch and Scots pine wood, plantation and moorland. Discover different species of trees and the flora and fauna they support. Get to grips with the names, structure and function of the different parts of plants. Learn about special features of plants – How do trees carry water to their leaves? Why do some plants eat flies? How does a Scots pine keep cool? How do plants spread their seeds? Can your class beat the ranger challenge of learning 10 plant names in one day? Come along in Autumn for a seasonal scavenger hunt and fungal foray!

OUR CHANGING WORLD
An essential part of every child's education today is climate change. We will introduce climate change through fun games. Explore the hazards faced by wildlife, learn about adaptability and the impact the weather changes will have. We will also focus on positive actions that we humans can still take to help slow down global warming.

RECYCLING, DECOMPOSITION AND WASTE
Take our recycling sorting challenge and you may be in for a few surprises! This programme gets young minds thinking about waste, what can be reused and what can be recycled. Learn about the role of decomposers in nature’s cycle and then see if you can find some.

BIODIVERSITY PAST AND PRESENT: NEW AND IMPROVED!
Would you like to know more about the native wildlife of Scotland today and in the past? We will start the day looking at different skulls of the more elusive mammals and  birds. Then explore the variety of life at Aigas, search for signs of our beavers and play games introducing all our now extinct native predators.

MINIBEASTS: NEW AND IMPROVED!
Come bug hunting, pond dipping and pitfall trapping, use butterfly nets, keys and magnifying glasses. We will be entomologists, study life-cycles and explore the habitats in which these minibeasts live.
