Highland 2007: A Year of Promise

Aigas has put together a special ‘year of promise’ day out for highland schools. This programme is designed to cover all six strands of culture: arts, sport, heritage, language, science and environment through the medium of nature and environmental education.

It is a very hands-on day, filled with active and creative activities like discovering new bird species with a Gaelic name, planting native wildflowers, delving into the Bronze Age and being a hunter gatherer at our hut circles, completing a fast paced recycling challenge, being wildlife detectives looking for evidence of beavers and learning about natural science. It encourages team work, citizenship, language skills and science.

This is an excellent day out to consolidate and add to children’s knowledge of Scotland’s cultural heritage. A local primary school who has done this day said “the children benefited from the programme, their awareness of the year of culture was heightened as was their respect for the countryside. It was very interesting and well executed”.
